“If you build it, he will come..” Kevin Costner’s famous movie, Field of Dreams (1989)

Maybe it’s the expansive fields of lush, green corn fields or the tickling of my visionary heart, but I cannot count the times this movie quote has played through my mind over the years in this rural health journey.

There is so much yet to be built in rural health… literally and figuratively. Since ARHP was born in 2008, it has been this concept that has driven many efforts.

Problem. Rural-informed solution:

Low test scores? Invest in middle and high school students.

Lack of local interest or knowledge of opportunity in health careers? Engage K-12 students and beyond in opportunities within the health sector.

Financial hardship in health career students? Create scholarships and student supports to recruit, educate, and retain new graduates.

Lack of transportation? Bring the training to the student or health professional.

Lack of health workforce? Mobilize a local, rural health workforce through Grow Your Own programs.

At ARHP, we are moved by the idea that a simple corn field can be transformed into a place where legends and residents mingle.

In this same spirit, we invite you to join us and take another look through a new set of lenses. Choose to see opportunity. Together, we have the honor to build something that lasts for future generations.

Sincerely,

Your friends in rural health
