We are thrilled to welcome you to our new blog: Rural Perspectives. 

It is not unusual for my friends who are movers and shakers in the world to go quiet for days or weeks at a time. Over the years, I’ve come to learn that the lack of communication rarely has anything to do with the depth of our relationship, but rather the sheer volume of responsibilities they are consecutively juggling (sometimes unsuccessfully). 

At times, a simple text message or recorded voice note appears on my screen:

Ahh, yes. David Bowie’s lyric from Space Oddity starts playing in my head: Ground control to Major Tom. 

Have I really been quiet for that long? I ask myself. 

I reply: Why yes, I am still here… thanks for reaching out. I’m working at a breakneck pace wearing too many hats to keep up and still be a good friend/(feel free to fill in the blank here). 

No worries. Just glad to know all is well in your world, my overly gracious friend responds. 

Do you ever feel like this happens to you too? As a rural change-maker, your life is consumed with all kinds of amazing work, but you rarely get the opportunity to sit down and share your latest adventures, thoughts, and ponderings with those you value as friends and colleagues. 

Well, we decided you were far too important to leave in the dark so we are launching this new Rural Perspectives blog. Here you will find musings, stories, rants, and adventures of everyday rural champions and heroes that long to make their rural worlds a better place. We hope you enjoy the more relaxed (and very real) platform to engage with us as we shape our rural worlds together.
